Florida’s New Sign Language Interpreting Bill, Inspired by Interpreter’s Mistake

February 2, 2018– In September 2017, an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter made national headlines by falsely interpreting Hurricane Irma warnings. This catastrophic event inspired Florida leaders to pass a new bill that requires all American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters to be certified by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

Our dedication to the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals in our community is of utmost importance. At Albors & Alnet, we firmly stand behind this bill as a language services provider. We continue to serve the Community and our clients with qualified American Sign Language interpreters for any situation where language creates a barrier to effective communication.
